The Funnest Time on Bikes

Bummer Buster

A series of swashbuckling MTB short-track races that take place in Stillwater Oklahoma.
The race takes place on a dedicated 1.5 mile loop, for a specified amount of time. Call it a “trail crit” if you must. The idea is to ride as many laps of the course as you can before time runs out.

Race Date: January 26th, 1-4:20pm. Lake McMurtry West Recreation Area, 30285 Bronco Curve, Stillwater, OK 74075

How Bummer Buster Works

The race course is a 1.5 mile closed loop, filled with rocks, roots and flowy singletrack, with new features and surprises added each race. The course can be ridden on almost any sort of bike, but we think it is most fun on a rigid MTB. We’ve ridden the course on drop-bar bikes with 40mm tires and had a great time, and we’ve ridden it on full-suspension trail bikes and had a great time, so choose your own adventure!

Ride Your Vibe! If you’re in a hardcore race mood, ride hard and fast! If trail jamming is more your style, then scope the features on your first lap, and spend the rest of the time shredding! The important thing is to ride your own style and don’t feel pressure to “race-race” if you don’t want to.

That being said, there are four race categories, and riders are encouraged to race both their gender category AND the Vintage & Rigid category. We will often have a few loaner rigid bikes available if you want to try something new!

Race Categories

Men/Non-Binary: 40 minutes
  Women/Non-Binary: 40 minutes
  Kids: 15 minutes
Vintage and Rigid: (Main Event) 30 minutes

The Men’s, Women’s and Non-Binary categories are all-ages, and riders may ride any bike they choose. Try something different! Non-Binary riders may choose whichever gender category they feel will be the most fun. There are no podiums here, you’re racing to bust your bummers!

The Kids Race takes place on a dedicated kids course, and it can be ridden on most common kids bikes.

The Rigid & Vintage Class is our favorite event of the day! Any bike made pre-2000 (that’s pretty vintage in MTB terms) is allowed to have suspension, as long as that suspension is pre-2000 as well. Bikes made after the year 2000 are only allowed if they are fully rigid. It’s fun to ride trails on a bike that actively makes the trail more difficult for you to ride, and it encourages you to push your boundaries as a rider and maybe develop some new skills. Bummer.

Rules
1. Don’t Be a Bummer!
Overly competitive attitudes will NOT be tolerated! Racing is fun when it’s competitive, but remember that there will be a large mix of experience levels on the course, and faster/more experienced riders MUST be courteous when passing slower riders. If a rider is intimidated by a feature, it’s okay to stop and help them out, or teach them how to ride it mid-race. This is a chance to show a new rider that trail riding is awesome and that they should love it as much as we do!

2. Don’t Leave a Mess
Help us keep the area clean, we are very grateful to our friends at Lake McMurtry and we don’t want to leave the place a wreck.

Want to help us out? We can always use volunteers and sponsor help!
